Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1225:
I was going to hold off until my next Ta da! post to talk about the launch of a lunar lander that held, among lots of other art, my short story, Aelwyd, which is set in the Paradisi Chronicles universe. However, after a successful early morning launch, the Peregrine lander itself seems to be leaking propellant, so it can’t make the soft landing that was scheduled for February.
However, Samuel Peralto, the person who has been coordinating this massive project to send a diverse representation of creative endeavors to land on the moon, has booked space on several other lunar landing missions this year, so my little story may eventually get to land on the moon. Peralto has been a tremendous supporter of independent artist, and at some point I will take the time to talk about the role he played in getting the anthology that holds my story, Chronicle Worlds: Paradisi put together.
While I’m not terribly invested in the idea that something I wrote ends up in outer space, I do think the whole project has been a lovely way to stimulate interest in the moon by a diverse group of artists, and if you are interested, I strongly suggest you go this website that details all aspects of this project.
Needless to say, however, I’ve spent a good deal of time today following this story on facebook and in the news. But I also got 688 words written, and lots of exercise, so not a wasted day.
Finally, as promised, here are some more poll questions for you all. And by the way, thanks to those of you under 55 who commented or emailed about how you discovered my writing!
My goal today is to explore how you came to discover my books or follow this newsletter.

I haven't read any of your science fiction boos (except the chapters here on this blog) They were interesting, and I might just try the series.
I started with your historical mysteries which I enjoyed for the story and the well researched aspect. I also enjoy science fiction, and was "hooked" from the first by the story and the belivability of the scenarios. Then I found your newsletter.
