Daily Diary, Day 876: “It’s My Birthday,” and for some reason, as I wrote this, I heard the Leslie Gore lyrics to “It’s my Party, and I’ll cry if I want to” in my head. Just looked this up, the song came out in 1963---sixty years ago. Anyway, I don’t think I will want to cry on this, my 73rd birthday, but I’ve just decided doing whatever “I want to do” is a nice present to myself.

Happy Birthday to a fellow Aquarian! I will be 60 on Saturday, the same age as the Leslie Gore's song. I enjoy your column and it's given me many ideas for managing my retirement in a few years. I am not a writer, but I plan to do more needle-art projects. Reading your columns has made me think more about setting mini-goals and how useful that will be.
