Over the years I have assembled people, some are friends and fellow authors, others, people who reached out in the early years as fans offering particularly useful comments. This time around I asked someone who had beta read for the mystery series if she would read the science fiction series and comment, and someone who had found me on substack and beta read for others reached out. Some have been with me from the beginning, some drop out because they are too busy, etc. Then years ago I found a professional proof reader who did a good job and this is the one person I pay. She does a word document that gets uploaded to both print and ebook. However, changing print is more difficult, so over the years when readers find typos, which still happens despite all the people who have looked at the manuscript, I quickly correct the ebook versions, while the print versions often don't get updated for years.

I'm curious, how does one become a beta reader or proof reader? Is there a proof reader for the hard copy and then again for the digital copy?
