Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1553:
On the health front, just got the results of the x-ray of my right foot. No fracture, but signs of arthritic degeneration of my talonavicular joint. In other words, the joint near my ankle, which is exactly where the pain and swelling has been occurring. So now I wait to learn what my primary care wants me to do next. At least I shouldn’t need to be in a cast, and I hope that the right shoes? perhaps prescribed orthotics? specific exercises? or some combination will get me back to walking without severe pain. So, I need to be patient a bit longer.
I continued to work on publishing tasks yesterday. I finished the process of producing a print edition and ordered an advanced copy so I can look at it. From experience it might take some time for the print edition to actually be available for sale. I also got the back matter up and republished for all the books in the Caelestis series and got a new release alert scheduled by Bookbub.
Today I will work on a graphic for marketing, and a couple more drafts of future posts. And, at that point most of the immediate publishing and initial marketing tasks from my long list will be done. Once again, this link will tell you where to buy the book (smile) just in case you forgot to rush out and get it. Or this link will show you where you can get started on the series (ebook free) in case you want to give it a try.
Very gray day, today, after a sunny day yesterday. Here is a photo from my neighbor’s yard (so didn’t have to walk far to get it) to brighten your day.

Arthritis is not a good diagnosis but at least you know what you’re dealing with. How lovely! I’m not seeing any roses around in central Oregon!!
Ajj, arthritis painful butt, as someone already mentioned, you know what you are dealing with. Hopefully with the right exercise and diet (yes there are specific diets for a flare up) it will be manageable. Take care!
