Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, , Day 1323:
I am pleased to say that yesterday I felt as if I had the first productive day on my novel in a month and a half. I cut a whole chapter, shifting some of the material into the next chapter, snipped whole paragraphs, did a little light editing (finding typos etc) and altogether cut 680 words. All this in addition to regular cleaning, 2 walks, and a scheduled phone call.
I also had a full 8 hours sleep last night, and this morning I’ve done a light cleaning (and culled a few more things for the Good Will pile, resulting in straightening out the downstairs hall closet).
I’ve done my morning walk (see the lovely poppies?) below, and after I post this, I hope to get in at least an hour before lunch. Then I have a visit from a former work colleague, followed by a regularly scheduled Tuesday phone call.
Then I hope to walk before dinner (but since it is supposed to be warmer today, I might postpone until after dinner.) After the marathon cleaning on Sunday, my feet were a wee bit better yesterday, but I think I might have lifted something too heavy in “the getting ready for remodel” activity because thigh muscles are now complaining. Going to need to be very careful in the next 2 weeks not to overdo the decluttering stage, but I do love looking into a closet and seeing everything neat and tidy!
Finally, since Monday’s post, half of the short story, Dandy Detects is now up on my newsletter (see this tab if you want to see them all listed) put up half of the short story so far, and I am curious about how many of you are reading it as it goes up.
So. I if you could answer the following questions I would appreciate it.

I enjoy the personality of Danny! I would like to have one of his doggie kisses.
Dandy is a delightful little dog! The story is a great introduction to Jamie and his mom, Barbara. I like the glimpses into their lives and the bits of information about children’s lives and jobs women had during that era. Dandy is definitely on my reread list. 😊
