Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1758:
Edgar’s friends: Miss Teeny still there!
Yesterday, with the good start in the co-writing session, I did succeed in getting more than 500 words on novel written, as well as 40 minute walk in the morning, and 20 minute walk before dinner. And, still got some time to read.
Today, I got on the co-writing session for an hour and and a half, got 300 words written, and then took an early morning walk, again 40 minutes. Since I have my noon zoom meeting that I am leading today, this should let me sneak in a 20-minute walk before I have to start to prepare. I also have a phone meeting after the meeting, so I might not get to any more time to work on the novel, but at least I got that 300 words done.
What I haven’t gotten done is any cleaning, since I missed window when my husband walked while writing. I try not to ever dust when he is in the house because he has a severe dust allergy. I am not sure when I will be able to get to cleaning today, so it might just have to wait until tomorrow. Leeza should have produced a fine pile of hair by then—given that with the warmer weather she is definitely shedding!
Very thankful that despite sun during much of the mid-days of recent, the temperature has continued to only get up to very low 70s…not like much of the eastern third of the country which has been suffering from extreme heat.
We watched the first suggestion from the NYT best 100 movies last night. Past Lives. Lovely quiet movie about two people who had known each other when children in Korea and reconnect later in life. Very good, albeit bitter-sweet story.
This bloom really does seem like it might be a hybrid, not sun-blasted, but again, who knows. I just find it beautiful fascinating.

I actually got round to some dusting today. Problem is as soon as you start you have to finish the rest as you can see all of it. If you leave it it’s the same all over 😁. And you appreciate you endeavours more when you get round to it 😘
Fortunate you don't also have a dust allergy as you both would have to evacuate while a cleaner does the job! I sympathize.
