Love Jumping Spiders and Daddy's. Awestruck by the size of Garden/Field spiders I find some years hiding on the Goldenrod, bodies about the size of ยพ of a medium chestnut! And amazed at Fishing/Dock spiders at cottages, about 4-5 inches across -- minnow hunters. But of all that, coming to understand how vulnerable they are as a soft-bodied creature, as a food source.
I wondered what response I got, because I definitely know that not everyone shares my general lack of fear of them...beyond a healthy desire not to get bit...having had a bad reaction once to what I am sure was a bite.
I discovered that harvestmen are sometimes called daddy long legs, but they have very different bodies from this particular spider which is the one normally called daddy long legs.
I had fun going down that particular rabbit hole of research!
For about a year a black spider lived in the living room. I told him as long as he stayed up high, we'd get along. Anytime I saw him start down, I'd tell him to get back up or you know what! And he'd scurry back to the ceiling. He disappeared one day but he always minded me! Lol
You sound like my sister. She will capture and bring it outside. I, on the other hand, am terrified of bugs in general. I know that spiders are not bugs; they are arachnids. But to me, they are all the same. If I see one in the house, I totally flip out. The worst to me is a centipede; they terrify me.
I also enjoy Daddy Long Leg spiders. We had them at our front door for awhile, thought they enhanced the Halloween vibe. I have to discourage other spiders because there are too many of them that find their way inside.
I think we are lucky that we don't get too many, although finding one on the shower floor 2 weeks ago was a bit freaky Without my glasses it was just a smudge that I didn't see until I was in the shower.
I share your opinions on daddy long legs vs. other spiders.
You probably heard me shriek all the way down at your house when I found an honest to gosh black widow in the room we were using to socialize the new kitten. (He had a habit of investigating everything with his mouth, which continued until a few days before his death.) It was crawling around on some books underneath the bookshelves and I put those in vacuum bags which lived in the garage for three years!
However, my house tends to have ant invasions (this bothered the cat too, especially when they got in his food). So the DLL are more than welcome to come in around the edges of the house and take care of the problem. I don't dust them and they feast. They are interesting to watch walk and it's so fun when they throw out a long line and go straight down like some mountain climber or stunt man.
I think all the ones who show up in your house should be Edgar. It's like live sports team mascots, they all get the same name. My older brother's college class helped get the first animal mascot (instead of a person in a costume) and since they picked a long-lived one, they're only on #6. I think some of them back East are way up in numbers.
We get ant invasions as well, although I've never had them up high where the Daddy Log legs are. And yes, I watched Edgar climb up to his perch a couple of times, amazing what they can find purchase with!
For some reason it told me only paying subscribers could comment on the Edgar follow-up?
So I had to comment here that I didn't find any ants this morning in the usual place and sure enough there was a medium size DLL right over by the window where they come in!

I love spiders! I did not know arachnophobia existed before I posted a photo of a cool one on Facebook and got tons of complaints

What a fun story!

ooh, I don't know that I would be happy about a centipede in the house!

My DLL are fine with being on the floor with the ants, parachuting down from windowsills, etc. I have to shoo them out of the tub sometimes!
So wonderful that you just leave her there. She doesn't do any harm.
Ever looked at one close by? Very intelligent eyes.....
Want to give you two little rhyme's (maybe you already know them):
-โIf you wish to live and thrive, let a spider run alive"
"A spider in the morning is a sign of sorrow;
A spider at noon brings worry for tomorrow;
A spider in the afternoon is a sign of a gift;
But a spider in the evening will all hopes life"
Love the rhymes!
