Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1299:
Yesterday was very much like Thursday, in that, it was a mix of experimenting with doing tasks without my splint, interspersed with wearing the splint in order to give my right hand a rest when it had become achy. Of course, I’m looking forward to the time when doing anything on the computer doesn’t end up with an achy wrist. But I am pleased to know that resting the wrist, especially when I put on the splint, does seem to get me back to a pain-free place pretty quickly. However, the fact that I need to “give the hand a rest,” continues to be a good reminder that I’m not back completely to normal yet. I also worked on soaking my eye for longer stretches to see if that helps it heal more quickly,
Otherwise, I worked on steadily increasing the number of minutes spent in exercise and continuing to work on reading through the earlier books in the Caelestis series. The plans for today are pretty much the same. I’ve done the extra cleaning upstairs that I do on most Saturdays, have taken my walk and soaked my eye, and after having done this post I will read.
Yesterday I was able to read outside in the sun, today we have an approaching bit of rain so the sky right now is cloudy, however the weather forecast says these clouds will clear away in the afternoon, then the storm itself will come in after midnight with rain off and on all tomorrow. Here is a bunch of very happy spring flowers who are liking the sun interspersed with rain we have been having this month.
I am starting to feel optimistic enough about getting back up to speed in terms of writing to begin to think about what I want to do during that period when I am editing and then sending the book out to be read and starting to do the research on the historical mysteries. To that and I’m going to start asking some more questions of you all and encourage as many of you as possible to respond.

I needed to read it without interruption. I wanted to know what was happening next. I couldn't read it in the newsletter. Hope you understand... I appreciate the efforts for those who love that format. It was thoughtful.
