Daily Diary, Day 814: For those of you in US, Happy Thanksgiving, and for everyone, I hope you had a day of gratitude. Two years ago my husband was in quarantine upstairs for Thanksgiving because he had just returned from 5 months up in Washington State with my daughter, and we were very much in the midst of first terrible year of Covid. So, the main thing I am grateful for is that neither my husband nor I have had Covid, or even one of the the nasty viruses going around this fall, and my daughter and grandsons, while having had Covid, seem to be quite healthy and happy.
Last year, I was busy editing Entangled Threads, the most recent Victorian Mystery novel in the series, so it was a bit of a working holiday that year.
This year, I decided to resurrect the tradition we had all the years our daughter was growing up. First, no work (smile) which for me was no grading, which when I was teaching meant the grading I did pretty much did every day of the week. So, today, I didn't even look at my current book. Second, following tradition, my husband and I drove (getting used to the new car) to the beach and and a walk along LaJolla Cove. The third tradition was to watch a holiday movie, and I might try to coerce my husband into watching When Harry Met Sally...once again!
The weather has been beautiful today, by 9 it was already 75, with a fierce Santa Ana wind all day. After lunch I sat outside and read, while my husband made his first batch of Christmas Cookies. I can't touch them (we call them snowballs-chocalote chip with walnuts rounds rolled in powered sugar) because they are the kind of cookie you can't just eat one of, and more than one could have very negative effects on me. So, the dear man made the cookies, and they were in the fridge before I came back in the house from reading in the sun, so I wasn't even tempted. (smile.)
I would love to hear your Thanksgiving traditions, or how you spent your day today. And here are some photos of the beach.
Had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with perfectly cooked tofurky roast with stuffing and 8 different roasted vegetables!! I made a pumpkin cheesecake pie with a gingersnap crust this year instead of our usual Smith Family English Sherry Trifle. Champagne was exquisite as always! ❤️🤗. Love the holidays!!
Had to forego our tradition of Thanksgiving with family in LA area and in Carlsbad, including beach walks! Tested positive for covid the morning we were to drive south. Fingers crossed we will make it south for Christmas and our grandson's 8th birthday. Although we are isolating here in our home in the historic gold rush town of Auburn, we are not isolated. Still getting dog walks, although much shorter. So enjoying your daily pictures from my former home town.
