Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, , Day 1301:
First of all, I want to thank those of you who have already responded to the last set of questions I put in Saturday’s post. At this point, around 66 of you responded, but it’s not too late to go over and add your answers if you’re seeing this post this morning. The purpose for the questions is to give me an idea whether it’s a good idea to put up either existing work or work in draft form for people to read through this newsletter. So, the more people who respond the more accurate the information.
The excitement in the neighborhood yesterday was that the couple showed up who just bought the house across the street, and it turns out they have a two-month-old baby. I am looking forward to being able to watch this child grow up.
I am continuing to feel generally optimistic about the gradual healing of my right hand, and while it’s still achy off and on, it’s increasingly at the level of some of my other joint arthritis and pretty quickly goes away when I rest the hand. The eyelid, on the other hand, is still swollen. As a result, this morning I emailed the physician’s assistant who did the initial draining to ask for advice about what my next step should be.
This morning I got up for yoga but then saw there was a full moon, which was very bright in the sky, and I remembered that this particular yoga studip isn’t open on days where there is a full or no moon. Since I had woken up naturally at 5:30, this didn’t really change the pattern of my morning except that I spent a few minutes texting my childhood friend who has started taking this zoom yoga class with me. I am definitely enjoying having an excuse to have these brief morning texts with an old friend.
Since then, I’ve had my morning walk, did some of the cleaning I never got to yesterday because it kept raining, chatted with the owner of the border collie, who brings him over for a play date every Monday, and now I have been dictating this post.
Today there is intermittent sun and clouds and only supposed to get up to the low 60s so I don’t know whether or not there will be any good time to go sit outside but no rain is predicted until next weekend.
Here is another set of cute flowers, especially for those of you who ended up having a return of winter weather this weekend!
