Thank you for expressing how many of us feel. We need to see more of this than the never ending “latest news” reports. I worry for the upcoming generations - who are just trying to live the life we have tried to make for them. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Thanks, and yes, one of the things I have noticed as I age, is that I trust I will figure out how to survive most anything...and there is a definite end in sight. But it is hard to think about future generations and how just a few weeks mindless action can do so much long-term damage. They've already suffered through (and may suffer again) from the trauma of Covid, it feels like how many must have felt just getting back on their feet from the effects of the 30s depression to be faced with the horror of WWII.

Mary ... I too grieve for your Nation and extend my sympathies to you and yours. What once was globally the most powerful influence to direct the best efforts of our civilization ... is no more, is in ruins. David

I agree with you, very difficult to watch what’s happening to our country. The people who condone what Trump, Musk, etc are doing are just as despicable as they are. People are suffering and feeling threatened.

I live in WI, so I’m happy both Susan Crawford won for WI State Supreme Court and Jill Underly won for WI State Superintendent of Public Instruction. While this shows some positive reaction against Trump, I’m hoping it will continue thru the upcoming elections.

I basically stopped watching CNN when Jim Acosta resigned live on Jan 28th and follow him, Robert Reich, you and others on Substack for the news.

So glad you got some positive news in WI. I too have increasingly gotten my news from substack newsletters.

I normally don't send money to out of state elections, but I did donate to Susan Crawford and she's the only candidate I supported that won over the last year.

Wow, thank you for supporting her! She, Jill Underly, Tammy Baldwin and the elections in the town I live in are the only ones I voted for that won over the last year...

She was also the first donation I did since the 2024 election.

We're not staying quiet anymore in small towns in the Heartland..A major state highway passes through town connecting St. Louis and Kansas City. A small group was out by the highway with our signs for the first time last Saturday and had a tremendous positive response from vehicles and over 500 likes on a local group post. That's big time for a small city! 😊

That is extremely heartening! I've heard from other people in smaller protests how uplifting it is to get those positive honks!

Thank you for your honest opinion of what is happening today! I encourage you to continue telling us how you feel! I completely agree with you that we are in dangerous times.

Germany survived Hitler, and broken and damaged we will survive Trump!

Thank you so much for your post, and to all who’ve commented. Excellent that you included that hands off link and I will be sharing it with and encouraging others to use this to show up tomorrow and express our disapproval for so much that these folks are doing. Peace.

There's an event tomorrow in my town downtown, even! Unfortunately the many tiring things I did yesterday and all the pollen blowing around are going to keep me home. And if I wasn't a little off, I'd have to choose between that and protesting the Tesla dealer, LOL.

But there will be other weekends I can attend.

I gave up watching the news several years ago and it has made me a much happier person. It only exists to keep us riled up, and you can't be healthy when you're like that all the time.

I still manage to keep up thanks to Substack and other web sites. It doesn't seem to bother me as much when I can take it or leave it, nor is it as scary when it isn't audio and video. I recommend this to all.

I certainly agree that I do better when I get my news in print. Easier to decide if I want to dig deeper and read on, or just get the gist, and less likely to be left with images I have trouble getting rid of.

Yes. You can stop whenever you want. You can go at your own pace and not be drinking from the fire hose.

Feeling it here in UK, too, Mary-Lou. I too have a tendency to weep when I log on to the news early every day. Been following the horror since long before the election but there is and always will be hope for a new world order in which decent people actually care for each other. They do exist... somewhere.

Living in Mississippi, very little is posted about any protests or resistance to what is happening in our country. I was grateful for the link to Hands Off. I was also heartened to see that there were actions happening in Mississippi! As a former Wisconsin resident, I was delighted with the recent election results. Keep it up WI. Be a light for the rest of us who are being kept in the dark.

Mary ... An example for hope. The major Canadian populist mini-Trump Prime Ministerial candidate, Pierre Poilievre, was defeated, loses status as Leader of the Opposition, his Seat in Parliament, and his physical residence in Ottawa. He's never held any other job but that as politician. He is out, and soundly, and for a span of years. But he is a major presence in the Conservative Party and a force still to be reckoned with. Now he has the Canadian workaround -- some other Conservative Member of Parliament can vacate his Seat in a "safe" riding to allow Poilievre to run for re-election there. But an immediate by-election call is/was not a done deal, could be delayed, is subject to the call of our new Prime Minister who could just hang Poilievre out-to-dry.

Here's the thing. Our new PM, Mark Carney is a major power player, CV as long as a city block. Major chops. Volunteers immediately to arrange that by-election. Now you might say that is the honorable thing to do -- and it is. But it's Carney, doing just what he'll do for Trump. Getting his enemy close. Knowing his foe and shaping the battleground. War, by Canadian Diplomacy.
