Weekly Writing Intentions: September 17, 2022
Daily Diary, Day 746:
First of all, a review of last week. I didn't quite make my writing goal of 5000 words, although I did better than I thought I would, given how few days I made more than 500 words. Total for the week was 4,594 words. I've decided to blame my difficulty on the fact that last Friday I got new glasses, and I have not yet adjusted to them. At this point, unless there is some miracle over the weekend, I think I am going to have to go back to the optical shop and see what the problem is.
I have a very strong prescription, which means I should get small frames, but it seems this is more and more difficult to do. So, the frames are slightly larger than my last ones. The first step, then, is to go in and see if they are sitting right, if any adjustments are needed (and to make sure they have done the prescription right.)
If that doesn't help, then I think I need to go back to optometrist, see if the prescription needs to be changed (or if she feels it is the frames, and that I need to get different ones) and go from there. I have dental appointment on Monday, so probably I will start this process on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Oh, well, at least it gave me a good excuse for not making my goal.
I am, however, very pleased with my exercise routine. The goal was 90 mins a day, (walking, cleaning, PT) and I reached that goal or higher every day. I feel stronger, and I actually seem to have lost the 4 lbs I put on last winter when my broken toe meant I couldn't walk for months! Today I added a new loop to my walk, where I found the one single rose blossom below, because I'm walking fast enough that the regular route is too short to get in my 60 mins.
As for my intentions next week. Obviously, keep up the exercise, without over doing it and hurting myself again. While I would love to hit the 5000 word goal, my specific goal for this week is actually about process.
I am about to end part one of the book, with about 45,000 words and 14 chapters Done. My protagonist, Mei Lin, has been in the capital city of New Eden, New Hong Kong City, for four days, and it is time for her to go home to Mynyddamore.
But I haven't outlined this next part of the book at all. So my goal this week is to finish this first part and outline the rest of the book.
While there are a lot of similarities between this kind of action/adventure science fiction novel I am writing and plotting a mystery, there are also differences. For example, while there are some red herrings (who exactly are the bad guys and who might be helping them?) mostly there is the tension of whether or not the good guys are going to be successful in stopping the bad guys. Since I write hopeful, generally feel-good stories, this tension is actually less are the good guys going to win, but how are they going to win, and is there going to be any collateral damage? Anyway, these are the sorts of plot issues I need to have at least a vague handle on before I start writing this next part. Wish me luck.
