Daily Diary, Day 977:
I didn’t get my proofed copy back last week, so I spend most of the week working on writing mini-biographies on the main characters in my upcoming short story, Dandy and the Dognappers, as well as continuing to do research on San Francisco in 1882, including mentions of dog stealing in the region, attitudes towards the local pound (very negative), the existence of a local kennel club that held periodic shows for the various dog breeds. I also wrote an Historical Tidbits post on the controversy over the use of dogs in 19th and 20th medical research. I even got a couple of paragraphs written of the short story yesterday. Oh, I also finished all but two of the tasks on my pre-launch to-do list, and those are things that aren’t crucial to publication. I guess over all a successful week of work.
As for exercise, I took things slowly, because I am still waking up pretty sore in mornings, but I did average 80 minutes of some exercise a day, walked six of the seven days, sticking to 30-40 minutes at a time, and started doing my PT exercises every other day, since they seem to have been causing the most soreness.
As for my intentions for this week, more of the same, maybe getting the length of walks up 5 minutes. Today I put in nearly an hour of cleaning, but I got 40 minutes of a walk in (started out with goal of 30 minutes, but felt good enough I extended it to 40. The rest of the week I hope to get up to and maintain 45 minute walks.
As for work, I’ve heard from my proof-reader that she should be able to get the manuscript back to me by tomorrow morning, and that she hasn’t found many errors, so should be easy to correct. This means on Sunday I should be able to correct manuscript, then format it in Vellum, and if this goes well, actually upload the book into KDP, Draft2Digital, Kobo, and GooglePlay by the evening.
I would particularly like to do this all tomorrow because on Monday we are having a heat pump installed, which is going to require all new ductwork. That means Monday and Tuesday wouldn’t be good days to work in the detailed work of actually publishing the book, but perfect days for the books to go through the review process and start to go live on all the retailers.
Then the rest of the week I will spend giving the house a thorough clean (since I assume that the work will have caused dust to accumulate in various nooks and crannies) while starting to work on the first part of the updating the new buy links everywhere once they go live. So, hopefully by the end of the week at least the ebooks will be available everywhere and I can start to advertise through my newsletter, etc.
After lunch today, I think I will create some drafts of my future mini-biography posts and get some more written on the story itself. That will make it easy to do a couple of posts on days when I am busy working on publishing. Busy week ahead, but satisfying to get to this stage.
Here are some rose blooms I saw on my walk, stunning aren't they!!
I am REALLY looking forward to your mini biography posts! How exciting.
