Weekly Writing Intentions: June 24, 2023
Daily Diary, Day 1027:
Hi, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the USA Today best-selling author of the Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series, and here is my daily reflection on life as an indie author trying to age gracefully.
First my week in review. I did not finish the story I am putting up scene-by-scene, although I did post two more scenes, and I did some rewriting of early scenes because of some continuity issues. My writing output was almost exactly that of the week before, averaging about 500 words a day.
My actual average minutes of exercise went up a bit, and I walked all but one day, and I started adding my PT exercises back in, so good progress in that arena.
My goals this coming week are to keep up the exercise, and I hope I will finish the short story. However, my primary goal needs to be to finish preparing for my workshop on self-publishing that is on zoom, Saturday night (for most participants it will actually be the next day, since the organization hosting it is in Australia.)
While the workshop is 3 hours, I will need to leave time for questions and a mid-way break, so the issue isn’t whether I will have enough to talk about, but how to narrow down the topics. One strategy is to shift as much as I can into a handout I will provide to people who attend. For example, if one of the participants is particularly interested in, say, doing facebook ads, I will provide links to books or articles on this, rather than try to go into detail on how these work.
Anyway, today I have already spent the morning and part of the afternoon working on this task, which means that after I post this, I will only have about an hour to work on the story.
Otherwise, no particular other goals for the week, just the usual scheduled phone calls, regular zoom meeting on Thursday. I may also do a little work tomorrow to get ready for the landscaping people coming on Tuesday. Theoretically, they should take care of removing some garden ornaments and decorative rocks –all currently smothered in weeds—but if I can get this done ahead of time, I will feel more confident that nothing will get damaged in the process.
I know I have taken a photo of this cow before—I think it was dressed up for Halloween. However, I took a different route to my walk the other day and loved seeing it all dressed up for a Pride celebration!
