Daily Diary, Day 844:
I can’t say that I wrote more on my novel this week, in fact I wrote less. Nevertheless, if I add in my daily posts, I did get 5500 new words written, achieving my 5000 words a week goal. I also averaged 80 minutes of exercise a day.
I did have a lot of scheduled and unscheduled phone calls, which I should have expected given it is the holidays when people tend to reach out. Hearing all the stories of people getting stuck in airports, or having to cancel plans because someone came edown with Covid or other upper respiratory illnesses, it certainly made me glad we live in San Diego and are staying put.
The most we’ve had is fog, and tomorrow, on Christmas day it is supposed to hit 72 degrees (poor us.) Up in Washington State where my daughter and grandsons live, they are having freezing rain, which we would have to be driving in if we were up there—as we were every Christmas until Covid hit. My daughter did report last night that her boyfriend braved icy streets to get to her, she already has her sons with her, and no one has to go anywhere for the next few days. That’s a relief.
Since I actually don’t have any calls scheduled for the next two days, and I am done with “My Favorite Things” posts, I do hope to increase my work on my novel (and maybe even read a novel to celebrate the holidays.) To achieve this goal, I am going to keep my posts very short, basically reporting on writing and exercise totals reached each day. Today, I have already done 90 mins of exercise (this is my weekly deep cleaning day), and I’ve already written 371 words, so a good start.
I also plan over the week to review what I accomplished this past year and write up a “Yearly Writing Intentions” post for next Saturday (New Year’s Eve.)
Needless to say, starting this substack newsletter will be one of the highlights in the year, and it wasn’t even on my to-do list! I am so grateful to all of you who have hung in there and continued to follow my daily ramblings.
I hope you all have fun activities planned for the holidays and are able to stay healthy and warm!
Merry Christmas, Mary Lou!
Peace--
Alison
