Weekly Writing Intentions: April 22, 2023
Daily Diary, Day 963:
Last week was one of slow but steady progress. I averaged 80 minutes of exercise a day, walking every day but Sunday, and increasing my walk time up to 40 minutes. Today, I am scaling back by not walking because I have already done an hour of cleaning, and I also finally got back to doing 10 minutes of my Physical Therapy exercises. Haven’t done those in months, and I can tell that some of the flexor muscle issues they are designed to deal with were popping up with the increased walking. So, this week, I may stay at the 40 minute walk limit, but add on the PT exercises every day.
If all that goes well, then maybe the following week I will move up the length of the walk. It is also already 81 degrees outside, so I have no desire to brave that level of heat today. The temperature is supposed to go back down into the 60s by Monday, good time to get back to walking.
As for the business of writing, I also felt good about the week. Not only did I get two Historical Tidbits writing and posted, but I started working on editing a friend’s manuscript. Then, when I got my own manuscript back from the last round of editing, I spent the last few days going through and making the suggested changes. As a result, I’ve sent Tides of Acerba (which is now slightly more than 106,000 words) to my proof-reader, which is the last step before publication. I booked her for May 1-7, but she said if she can, she will start on it earlier.
What this means is sometime by May 7 I will get the manuscript back, make the last changes (which takes no more than a day) and then start to upload for publication. As a result, this week I will work on developing a to-do list for launching the book. Once this to-do list is complete, I will share this as a post.
However, after lunch, I am looking forward to getting back to reading A Penny Earned, the manuscript I was reading. Once the is complete, I will get back to the preparation work for writing the Dandy short story. All fun stuff!!!
Oh, there are 5 birds fighting over who is going to eat next from the bird feeder. One on the feeder, one on the fence it hangs from, and three in the branches of the scraggly bougainvillea back there. All house finches. Looks like one is actually kissing the other, pecking at its beak. Courting behavior?
Here is a photo from walk this week of a bush that is really going to town this spring, lots of very pink blooms. Hope you all have a great weekend planned.
