Weekly Writing Intentions: April 15, 2023
Daily Diary, Day 956:
Been a rather up and down week, both in terms of weather, as well as trying to carefully get back to the level of exercise I was achieving before a series of minor physical ailments over the past two months.
I have felt pretty good about the level of work, versus relaxation, that I did achieve this past weee. I am almost done with the long-term to-do list, which included getting caught up with various house-keeping tasks regarding data collection, over-due emails, updating some files in order to get print copies of the Caelestis series with new covers, etc.
This coming week I plan to shift from these more mundane tasks to working on more substantive substack posts and getting ready to actually write the Dandy and the Dognappers short story that I will be posting one scene at a time on substack. This will all be part of coming up with a plan for my second year posting on substack, which includes seeing if I can grow my audience here. (Which of course you all can help me do if you occasionally share a post you really like-which is why I put in a share button every so often-smile.)
In order to help guide me on developing that long-range plan, I posted my first poll on substack this week and I was really gratified by the number of people who participated! I had 44 people vote, which I confess was a goodly number more than I expected (judging by the responses of polls I’d seen on other substack newsletters.) While it appears that only 9 who answered were writers, only 3 weren’t interested in the subject, and the rest said they weren’t writers but were interested in my posts about the writing and publishing process.
Of course this doesn’t mean this would be the breakdown for the rest of the people who read the newsletter, but I can only assume that they can always take the option of skimming through those part of the posts where I talk about this, or ignore the ones that are explicitly titled part of the Author’s Corner series.
As for my exercise, I did manage to average a total of 50 minutes a day, mostly cleaning, but I also have worked up to 25 minute walks. So my intention for this coming week is to continue to add minutes on, very carefully, with the goal of getting up to at least 50 minutes a day. The weather is predicted to be mostly cloudy and cool, with a brief warming trend at the end of the week, but no rain. Actually, pretty good walking weather.
And still very good weather for the weeds. Here are some cute blooms from our front yard, which is currently knee high in weeds. The people who cut our lawn in the back yard are supposed to weed-wack again in the front, week after next. Meanwhile, the birds (who are now emptying our feeder in half a day) seem to enjoy rooting round the weeks for seeds as well. Hope you all have fun weekends planned.
