Daily Diary, Day 698:
Very simple plans for the week: write, write, write. I spent way too much time this past week dithering over what backstory information needed to go in, and where. So, I need to be much more disciplined going forward.
What works best for me is if I do the pomodoro method (set timer for 25 mins, then 5 min break.) This keeps me from distracting myself by social media or responding to text messages immediately. Then, while sprinting this way, I try to just put in ???'s when I come to anything that is slowing me down. For example, a name, or a specific detail, or even a description of a person or place that isn’t related to the plot.
The goal is moving the plot forward, and to only go back to fill in these blanks or do some editing when I have a good chunk of writing done.
So, those are my writing intentions for this week. If I do this, I should be able to get my average word count up to 1000, even with the usual time spent on all the other things that fill up my day and keep me healthy in mind, body, and spirit.
Heavy cleaning day this morning instead of a walk. We woke up to ants in the kitchen, so the hour I would have spent walking I spent scrubbing everything and trying to figure out where they were coming in I I think from behind the oven. Good cardio exercise!
Here is a rose from yesterday. I love the image of it bravely struggling to emerge from the cacti and bougainvillea! Life seems like that sometimes.
I hope you all have some fun things planned for the weekend, and that everyone is finding a way to stay cool and safe.
Marilyn Meredith wrote in her post this morning that she also woke up with ants in the kitchen and spent time scrubbing everything. (I had Orkin come to spray mine yesterday - in kitchen, office, and both bathrooms!!) The heat brings them, I think.
Really enjoyed reading your idea on the pomodoro method. That could be applied to other tasks for me.
