Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1303:
It’s a beautiful sunny day today, and yesterday afternoon I actually was able to sit out briefly in the sun and I think I should be able to do that before and after lunch today. However, the tentative forecast for rain this weekend has now turned into headlines about another atmospheric river heading towards Southern California! This means I expect I might have as one of my celebrations again this weekend my enjoyment of this weather. I just hope it doesn't end up causing any destruction or flooding, but just some nice steady rain.
I’ve done my yoga this morning, and my cleaning, and my morning walk, and I am now waiting for the groceries to be delivered. I’ve also worked a little this morning on reading Tides of Acerba. Interestingly, I have found a few very minor things I want to change. I realize that this is the first time I’ve read through the novel since it was published a year ago and I found a couple of continuity issues. For example, in an earlier book, the protagonist says she is taking classes at Huntley University, while in this book I had it be Chandler University. Not surprising that no one caught it because I and my beta readers hadn’t read the first 3 books for years. But since I just read them, this time I did.
This is an easy change of one word, the couple of other issues are easy to fix as well. This is one of the wonderful benefits of being an independent author, because I am making the corrections on the master document as I go along, and when I finish reading the book, I will simply re-upload the new document to all the retailers. If I gone through a traditional publisher, these changes would probably never be made, and they would always bother me.
Just got a notice the groceries are on the way, so time to sign off!
For some reason the arrangement of these bushes and plants made me smile!

Flowers were so vibrant and a cool shape, almost like homes for fairies! 😉
