Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1666:
I spent much of yesterday reading the book about Mexicans, Chinese, and African-Americans on the frontier and finished just this morning. I also worked on my scene outline, and I hope to be ready to actually start writing on Friday. I also accomplished my first day were I walked a full sixty-minutes (in two thirty-minute chunks.) I will try to do this again today, although I am trying not to set up an expectation that I will achieve this every day.
This morning, I have already done yoga, ordered groceries, did the regular cleaning, and I am about to go on my first walks. When I get back I will catch up on some of my newsletter reading, then it will be time to put the groceries away and have lunch.
The past few days have been sunny, but fog rolls in every afternoon and will hang around until about ten. This morning the mist actually made the streets wet, and it is still very gray. These photos are from yesterday of fog hanging out over the ocean (they were taken during my second walk before lunch) and I thought I would add another little shot of spring blooms.

Everything I publish in this newsletter is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for what I am writing by clicking the button below to upgrade to paid, thereby providing me more resources so I can spend more time writing my fiction and less time marketing. In addition, please do click on the heart so I know you’ve been to visit and/or share with your friends, and I always welcome comments! Thanks!
It was about 85 the last 2 days, which was ridiculous, if good for my arthritis.
It's back to normal now, but the heat made my rosebuds act like popcorn! Suddenly there are pink roses all over. I spent some time on the porch admiring them.
Love the pictures you post
