Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1778:
Edgar and friends: Edgar spent yesterday up against the side of the magazine rack, clearly digesting. Such a round little tummy! This morning he is in the same position, and again, Junior hanging in there.
Yesterday, I took a phone call during my second walk of the day, which worked well because I was supposed to talk with this person today, but now I have time free today to talk with the friend who had to cancel for Monday! I don’t go out much besides my walks and trips to the clinic, but I do have at least one nice long phone or zoom chat with friends every day.
The co-writing zoom session yesterday was quite productive, in that I got through editing part of a chapter, doing some cutting and adding (and shifting some material to an earlier chapter.) I do find editing very satisfying.
Today, I’ve had yoga, short cleaning of downstairs, and I am now heading out for a quick walk, so I can participate in another co-writing zoom call between 7:30 and 10:30. All this should set me up to get in my longer walk before lunch since I have my phone call scheduled for before dinner.
I can tell when I carve out more time to write/edit, these posts tend to be shorter, but I assume you all don’t mind…if it means I actually get this novella done and available!
The jacaranda are pretty much through flowering, but I noticed I had some old photos saved (two trees and then some other plant I can’t identify), so decided to give you a little purple pleasure today.

Everything I publish in this newsletter is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for what I am writing by clicking the button below to upgrade to paid, thereby providing me more resources so I can spend more time writing my fiction and less time marketing. In addition, please do click on the heart so I know you’ve been to visit and/or share with your friends, and I always welcome comments! Thanks!
Here's to keeping posts short and writing long!! Love how you do many walks--very good!
Jacarndra’s are so pretty! Aren’t we lucky to have computers, phones, and zoom. Also Telehealth.
