Early morning yoga and bundled up because it's cold...for San Diego (smile.)
Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1226:
Again, really pleased with the participation in yesterday’s poll. Up to 65 responses, bu there are two more days for people to chime in.
Yesterday morning I had to go back to glasses place because the new glasses I got were just not working out (this has happened before because my prescription is so strong that it is hard to get frames that are small enough in dimensions not to distort my vision.) Anyway, I made sure I saw a technician that has helped me before, and she spent a good hour or so, checking to make sure the people who made the lens had the right prescription (they did), and then carefully looking at how the prescription had changed from last year. She felt I really needed to have a second opinion on the prescription because it had changed so dramatically, despite the optometrist telling me the change was minor. So, the problem might be the prescription, or it might be the new frame. The recheck comes at the beginning of February, meanwhile she also worked to get the current frames to fit more comfortably (they are very old frames which we finally got new lens in last year because they were the only frames we could find (even looking on line) that were the right dimensions. And this morning, the adjustments to the frames haven’t appeared to solve the problem of them hurting my nose. Sigh.
Anyway, this pretty much blew yesterday morning, so I didn’t walk. However, since I had gotten more than 2 hours of exercise the day before, I didn’t feel bad about this, and I did do my Pilates exercises and my evening walk.
The evening walk was chilly, but my husband dug out an old wool watch cap of his, and I found the wool scarf I knitted him when we were just boyfriend and girlfriend in college (so 54 years ago!). It was the only time I knitted in my life (smile) but it has held up quite well. The result—I was quite comfortable on the walk.
This morning I did my second round of yoga. I definitely don’t have a much lung capacity as the clearly much younger other participants, but the teacher had given me some modifications to do that worked fine. My abdominal muscles are a tiny bit sore this morning, which I take as a good sign. Over all, feeling good so far about adding this to my exercise regime.
I don’t have any scheduled phone calls today and I hope a good day of writing because yesterday between phone calls, and spending some time coming up with some ideas about the cover for the book I am writing, I only got 200 words written.
And now I’ve started laundry, done the daily cleaning, and taken my 30 minute walk. Very cloudy today, and was only 41 degrees when I started out. Below is selfie of me in my cap and scarf, and a view of the clouds.
