Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1275.
Yesterday was a very productive day. I got over 1000 words written through a combination of dictating and then editing. While I’m not sure that dictating is going to work in the long term for my novel writing. For now, however, since my knuckle still tends to ache when I type, I’m going to keep trying to do it. Particularly for shorter things like these blog posts.
In addition to getting a lot written yesterday, I also had another full day of exercise, particularly enjoying getting in the two walks again. I also went on YouTube and found a 15-minute yoga breathing video that I added to my 20 minutes of Pilates.
I would love to say that the stye is better, but in fact, the right upper eye lid has become extremely swollen and was very uncomfortable by last evening. I did get the antibiotic cream in the mail yesterday so I started putting it on last night (it goes on once a day before bedtime.) My experience is that it takes three or four days for me to notice any improvement, so I’m being patient. Also patient about the knuckle, which as the swelling had gone down, has revealed some sort of bump. I will give it at least another week, to see if this is something that will resolve itself (or the aching goes away), before thinking about making an appointment to see someone about it.
Meanwhile, today, I do have a scheduled phone call in a couple hours, so after posting this, I am going to go take my morning walk so I can still get some writing done this morning.
My daughter is off on a yoga retreat with her yoga leader, (which is why I am not having my usual morning breathing class) and she sent a lovely photo from their first early morning yoga practice at the retreat, which is in Costa Rica. The weather there is in the 90s and the photo showed mountains against a beautiful blue sky. This is really her first vacation away from her kids, although I suspect doing yoga day after day is not going to be necessarily easy. I’m so pleased that she’s taking this time off, something I didn’t do during my middle years (except to go to conventions, but then the big break was to hide out by myself in the hotel room in between panels and meetings.) Not exactly looking out over mountains or swimming in a pool that overlooks the ocean!!
Yet, who am I to complain, living in San Diego year round. The last couple days have been a mixture of sun and clouds, temperature in mid 60s, so the photos today are once again going to be a mixture of some clouds and some blossoms I found on my walks yesterday. By the way, notice the snail in the bottom blossom.
