Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1268:
Yesterday, I got the information for taxes done, then rechecked (I always find a few errors), and even better, the last 1099 form I was waiting for showed up in the mail yesterday. My husband needs to recheck, then he will drop the material at our tax accountants. Until we know if we owe anything, it’s out of our hands, which is a big relief. I also got in a 40 minute walk because during the afternoon the rain ended, and only started again later during the night.
This morning I’ve already done yoga, and since the rain has ended (or at least paused), my husband went off for his first dog walk, while I did some cleaning. Then a shower and off I went the clinic to pick up my glasses. I got new frames months ago, but never adjusted to them (I simply couldn’t read small print), and so I got a new prescription a couple of weeks ago. All went very smoothly—from door to door only took me 45 minutes. So far, definitely better job on the prescription—having no trouble with reading smaller print. The fit (nose pieces and behind the ears) is slightly different, so I expect this will take some getting used to. But the old frames were really, really old and hurting my nose, despite several attempts to adjust, so already this frame feels better.
When I got back, I immediately went for my morning walk. Just lovely, sunny, blue sky with puffy white clouds. And now I have two hours this morning to get back to the novel. Four days not evening opening the manuscript! May take a bit to get back up to speed. Enjoy the clouds and some daisies!
