Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1546:
Goal today is to limit walking and going up stairs in order to help calm down my right foot, which was not happy yesterday after the walking I had to do in the morning when visiting the clinic. So far this is working, in that foot is feeling much better. Other goal is to continue reading and commenting on my friend’s manuscript. In between, I will do some modified chair yoga and pilates (dropping out any of the exercises for my foot). I might also work a little on some future posts, since I don’t know how easy typing is going to be after I get fitted for my splints in a week.
I finished the Richard Osmond cozy mystery yesterday and quite liked it, so I need to come up with something else to read that is in the same vein.
As promised, here are some more photos of Leeza, the first of her taking a post first walk nap, the second of her giving my husband the stare (and an occasional whimper) that says it is time for the second walk, although she’s off by an hour! So far, my husband is ignoring her, but I am not so sure how long this is going to last!

Great update. Such a wonderful feeling to find a good book - as you well, well know! Sure hope these splints will help heal and you will still be able to use your hands a good amount.
I enjoy the Osmond books too!
