Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, , Day 1295:
Remember how yesterday I said it was going to be a sunny day, and for most of the day, in our neighborhood, it was. But, by mid-day, huge thunder clouds were building up to the east of us, and by the afternoon they now covered half of our neighborhood as well. If you looked to the west, perfectly blue sky, but if you looked straight up or towards the east, more and more clouds.
That afternoon walk, itself, was incredibly interesting because before I left, my husband pointed out that he could see some raindrops showing up in the back patio. I really wanted to get this walk in, so I put on my fedora and my jacket that is rain-proof and went out for a walk where I did two different loops so I would be close to home if it started to pour. In the first loop, about the third block, it clearly started to rain enough so that you could see the drops on the sidewalk. But then by the next sidewalk, the rain is stopped, but the wind picked up so much that I couldn’t keep my hat on. Then, when I turned around the wind died down and there was no more precipitation. However, by the time I was halfway on the second, shorter loop, it was raining enough so that I hurried home, afraid that I might get drenched. However, by the time I was home, end of rain, and our local weather station, just a few blocks away showed no precipitation at all. Frankly, I found the whole walk rather fun.
I’m not getting this post out until after lunch, because I had a very busy morning, with cleaning, which I hadn’t gotten to yesterday, my first walk, ordering groceries and paying bills, and putting in the information for another promotion for next month. After that, I had a zoom session call with my cousin Fran and my cousin Ed. They are the two cousins who are closest to me in age and we have a lot of fun catching up—there is always a lot of laughter and sharing our recommendations for recent shows we watched on TV.
Then it was time for lunch, followed by a scheduled phone, which just ended, and after I finish posting this, I have another scheduled call, and my walk before dinner.
I’m going to leave you with a photo of what the sky looked like when I took my walk yesterday afternoon.

That’s one grumpy looking sky!
Reading that your conversation made you laugh made me happy. The muscles that help us laugh need to be exercised often! Sometimes it's still the best medicine!
