The forecasters keep teasing is with promises of sun, but June gloom prevails.
Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1379:
Last week the weather predictions had this week being warm and sunny, and yesterday the sun was out for a little bit longer (see photo of jacaranda against the blue sky), but as of this morning, it is cloudy again, sort of drizzly, and when I looked at the ten-day forecast, every day was cloudy, not even partly cloudy, with the temperatures still stuck in the high sixties.
I know once we get hotter weather, which generally comes in August and September, people will wish that it was cooler, but June gloom does have a tendency to put a damper on everybody’s moods.
This has been another morning where, once I have cleaned, done a couple loads of laundry, ordered groceries, took my first walk, and soak my eye because I have another stye developing in the other eye (big sigh), it is already almost 10 and time to be on the look out for the grocery delivery. But again, once this is posted I am going to try to grab some reading time.
I do have a friend who is a writer coming over this afternoon to talk writing and that should be fun. Hoping for at least a little sun rather than fog, since we will be sitting in the backyard.
We also got a call this morning about delivering the materials for the next stage of the bathroom remodel project. They will drop everything off on next Wednesday, then the project itself starts the following Monday with asbestos removal again…hopefully without the leak that happened with the master bath.
I’m going to leave you with a photograph I took this morning of the new shower in the master bathroom. The frosted glass door is not on yet, making it easier to see what it looks like inside. Notice the two nice grab bars!

Oooh, I love the look of the smooth, rectangular, marble tiles that are being used these days. Looks so classy and easy to clean! We looked into doing something similar. I wanted little accent tiles added in, but we had to spend our money elsewhere. Sigh. Wonder what will be in vogue when we do get around to it? Ha ha.
