Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1267:
Well, yesterday was another long day of putting together the material for taxes. I know it would be easier if I put information in monthly, but my days are already so full that I haven’t been able to keep up with the regular record keeping I normally do. However, a scheduled phone call at the end of the day, and dealing with what looked like some sort of hacker attempt to get into my website, took up all my exercise time for the day, so I only did my yoga and cleaning.
Today, however, I got going early on last bit of tax stuff, then walked 30 minutes, even though raining fairly hard, because I was desperate for fresh air. Pretty wet by the time I got home, but it felt great. Now I’ve had hot shower, drinking hot tea, and posting this. I still have to go through everything again and make sure I’ve got all the forms, all the numbers are right, and have all the necessary receipts. But this should still leave me time to do my Pilates before lunch, and work on drafting my monthly promotional newsletter before my afternoon scheduled phone call. It is supposed to steadily rain all day, so I don’t know if I will get in the second walk. So far no news of flooding, but in our neighborhood there has been .21 inches, and the forecast is that it is supposed to continue to have light rain, with occasional heavier rain throughout the evening and night, only tapering off tomorrow morning. Nothing like the downpour that caused so much damage last month, but for already saturated soil, not good.
We watched the finale of True Detective last night, and we felt good about how they ended it. I felt that over all this season matched the tone and intricacy of the first season (which was my favorite) the best, and as I’ve said, I do love watching Jodie Foster.
Here is a little lawn ornament I noticed this weekend. Very cute.
