Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1260:
Yesterday, despite only 744 words written (wanted to achieve 1000), still felt pretty balanced. Lots of exercise in the morning, a pleasant walk in the afternoon, and watched the first two episodes of Abbott Elementary last evening. I listened to a podcast interview with Quinta Brunson, the creator and main actress in the show last week, and that context to who she is, what she wanted to accomplish with this show, made the experience even more enjoyable.
This morning, I’ve already had my morning walk and an unscheduled phone call, but I’m now free to write for a couple of hours. My husband is making a new soup, and while I won’t eat (too many carbs in the potatoes and too much kale, which I don’t like) I enjoy smelling all the spices that are going into it.
Here is a photo from a single rose on a bush, its been fun watching it each day as it spread its petals!
