Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1197: Yesterday was a well-balanced day, got in my regular cleaning, my two walks, and my core exercises. I had one unscheduled phone call and on scheduled call, and I got 888 words written, letting me finish a scene.
We did get a report back yesterday that our bathrooms don’t have any lead, but the walls and floors do have asbestos, so the demolition will need to be done by a special company. However, the remodel company told us that if this happened they will plan for it, including using the money that is scheduled for demolition in the regular project to pay most of the additional bill for mediation. The main thing we don’t know is if we need to be out of the house the 2-3 days this is happening. But since the whole thing doesn’t start until the end of February, we have time to figure this out.
Meanwhile, today should be pretty much the same as yesterday, but the more words I get written today and tomorrow, the better, because Thursday I have an eye doctor’s appointment and my usual Thursday noon meeting. And if my eyes are dilated for the exam, that pretty much rules out any work for the day, since it takes hours and hours for my vision to get back to normal. Might just have to listen to audiobooks until the meeting.
Last night was another great night for clouds and sunset, and a bunny!!
Also, this is the last day for my steep discounts on the audiobook editions on Chirp of my Victorian San Francisco mystery novels.
