Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1765:
Edgar and friends: I was delighted to see that Edgar was back this morning, in the same place, busy reweaving his web between the magazine rack and the door frame. Miss Teeny was in place, not moving, and a tiny spot, high up in the left hand corner above the sink that I had wondered might be an even tinier Daddy Long Legs had disappeared this morning…so maybe it was.
We also had our first ants in the kitchen in a long time, and I had the brief, but ghoulish, thought that maybe I should bring one of them from the kitchen to the bathroom. Decided that was really going too far.
This morning I had my husband take down the new bird feeder he put up Wednesday, The birds had gotten used to it, but its design meant it kept tipping towards the fence, that plus the deeper mesh basket made it very difficult for the smaller birds to get the seed without actually getting into the basket. So, I will hold it in reserve, in case the current one falls apart completely.
Yesterday, usual cleaning, 2 walks, and a delightful phone call in the morning, and I actually got a little writing on the novella done, plus finished the last Gibson novel.
Today, I’ve cleaned, walked, and after finishing and publishing this post, I will do some journaling and if possible I would like to get in my second walk, before my usual Thursday noon zoom meeting, with a scheduled phone meeting right afterwards. If I have time and energy afterwards, will work on novella. So basically, a very routine day.
These next photos are sliding between yellow and multi-colored. Enjoy!

Again, a fun read. A doe deer stood on her back legs to try to get my birdseed!!
She tried three times before giving up!
Bright yellow bud is my favorite... Yellow Rose of Texas!
