Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1262:
Yesterday, I decided that I needed to consider easing up a bit on trying to do all my regular exercise on a day that starts as this one did with yoga (or on Saturday and Sunday when I do extra cleaning.) Because when I add together yoga for 30 minutes, cleaning for at least 30 minutes, morning walk for 30 minutes, Pilates before lunch for 30 minutes, then do my before dinner walk for 30 minutes, I have done a total of two hours and a half of exercise. Which seems a tad bit extreme. Additionally, it also eats into my writing time. So, yesterday, I carved off ten minutes here and there (shorter morning walk, shorter pilates.) And even if this was only 20 minutes less, both times this permitted me to write a little longer when I was chugging along productively. As a result, I wrote 1222 words yesterday, ending one chapter and starting another.
So that was a win! Today, because it is a Thursday, with my normal noon zoom meeting, I might not be able to get to doing my pilates, so I made sure I did my 30 minutes morning walk, and might even do 40 minutes this afternoon…if I feel like it.
The forecasted rain for this weekend seems to be disappearing, fewer days, less chance of actually precipitation, but we are still getting some interesting clouds every evening, despite recent sunny days. These photos were from Tuesday’s evening walk, one a jet contrail, the other one if you look very closely has two crows riding some thermals, very high up!
