Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, , Day 1318:
My youngest grandson turns 13 today, his older brother is 14, and I confess that I chuckled when I pointed out to my daughter that she now had 2 teenagers and she sounded a little appalled (she was not exactly an easy teenager!)
I am afraid that I am the kind of grandmother who doesn’t want to live down the street and devote time and energy to be hands on with my grandkids. I much prefer writing and making the money so that I can help out financially and pay for extra-curricular activities. One of my friends is the hands-on type, and she is great at it, but it exhausts me to hear all that she and her husband do on a day-to-day basis!
Meanwhile, I have clearly become resigned to my slower pace of writing, pleased to make any progress at all, without increased pain. So yesterday I did complete one scene, made good progress on another, at one point had added 350 words, but at the end was down to 171 added words so I did achieve some cutting!
I also sat out in the sun during a phone call. Today is really sunny again although there was fog first thing in the morning and it is supposed to go down to low 60s tomorrow. I got in a 40 minute walk this morning, and about 30 minutes writing, but this is a typical Thursday with 2 zoom meetings and other non-writing responsibilities, so no expected progress on novel for the rest of the day.
Suddenly the roses are going to town!!!
