Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, , Day 1377:
On to celebrations for the week.
Continued progress on bathroom remodel.
Only a few things remain to do in the master bath. One of the grab bars in the shower needs to be put up, plus 3 small towel racks, which will go up once the mirror arrives and is put up. The door needs to be painted, but that might not happen until the painters come for the other bathrooms (and to paint the den ceiling.) And the people who measure and later install the shower door are supposed to come on Monday. At least according to the schedule, the installation of shower door is to be the last stage, and it is scheduled for next Friday, so I am assuming that sometime between Monday and Friday the other things like the grab bar and towel racks will go in.
My “vacation” reading:
For some reason I keep feeling like I should come up with new things to celebrate in these posts but that’s silly. As I’ve mentioned several times during the week, I am really getting into my vacation reading, which is binging on re-reading all the books in the Foreigner series by CJ Cherhy. I have just started on book 5, and in this book, a new character, a young boy, is introduced and I’m really looking forward to this, as he becomes an important point of view character. I find it fascinating that, although I’ve read this part of the series multiple times, I can still get excited when I know a particular twist in the plot is going to happen soon.
Walking milestone:
I just looked back at my notes and the last time I was able to consistently walk for 60 minutes at a time was the end of 2022. (I had no idea it had been that long!) At that time, I regularly had two major loops one that lasted 40 minutes and then the second one that was 20 minutes that I added to the walk most days. While I doubt whether I will ever get back up to doing the 60 minute walks once a day, these last couple of weeks, my goal has been to see whether or not I could do the full 20 minute loop for my three times a day walks. I’m glad to say that this morning I was able to do it, which means that I was walking energetically enough to not have to turn back before the loop was done. This is definitely a reason for celebration.
The beautiful roses that have been making my walks so pleasant:
No reason to talk about this the photos below speak for themselves.
