Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, , Day 1265:
Brief check-in: Yesterday, as hoped for, I finished the chapter I had been working on (220 more words), and outlined the next chapter. And then, as planned, I spent the rest of the day starting the process of organizing tax documents. Today, after cleaning the downstairs, I will devote most of the rest of the day to taxes.
Celebrations:
As I start this post today, I realized one of my reasons for celebration is that this week I got far enough along in the manuscript so I could take the time to do the taxes. Not exactly a woo-hoo moment, but extremely satisfying, so a reason to celebrate.
A second reason to celebrate is that I got my monthly Cheese of the Month box, which I have been getting for at least a decade. Cheese and crackers is my usual dinner, so it is really nice to have a variety. Sometimes of the 3 different cheeses there are favorites and some not so favorites. This month I am enjoying them all. One is a Port Salut (from Brittany), semi-soft that I am putting on my crackers. The second is a Montasio, from Italy, white, sort of crumbly, distinct taste. The third is probably my favorite, Barber’s Westminster Farmhouse Cheddar from England. I love a really sharp cheddar, which this one is!
Finally, I would also like to celebrate the longer days, which has made my walks before dinner exceedingly pleasant, even when chilly. Last evening, a very unique sky, with these dark clouds (almost looked like smoke) bunching up to the east, but to the west, lighter colored clouds that let the sun come in and out. I also enjoyed the pink of the bush in this photo which sort of glowed the growing twilight. I also had a lovely chat with some women who have been working hard over the last 6 months weeding, and building raised beds with flowers and vegetables in their front yard. The local gophers have found them and we commiserated over the number these little rascals were doing on all their hard work. In short, I am celebrating my afternoon walks.
So, ta da! these are my celebrations this week, what are yours?
