Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1691:
Once again, I am going to post about how my walks are providing me such multiple moments of delight.
First of all, I am delighted by the fact that I made it through one more week without any new major health issues and that has meant I have been able to walk every day, consistently building up my stamina.
Which brings me to the subject of his post, the sudden profusion of roses I saw on my walks. Usually, when I walk in the neighborhood, I am looking for specific shots of single blooms, so I can zoom in to capture their vibrant colors. And this year, because we had very little rain this winter (which is our usual rainy season), I had found it difficult to find any roses to photograph, or when there was a bloom, it was either a rather sad left-over or was a single blossom on an otherwise completely blossomless bush.
Then towards the end of March we got a number of good rain storms, which gave the city about 9 inches of rain, and this was followed by some lovely warm, sunny days. The result—a sudden proliferation of blooms! There have always been a few yards with rose bushes with multiple blooms, but I don’t think I have ever seen so many, all at once.
So, on Friday, I decided I would take as many photographs as I could of rose bushes that were crammed with new blossoms, which were giving me so many moments of delight as I walk.

Happy Spring to you all, and I will leave you with this link about the protests held yesterday, which also lifted my spirits.
What are the signs of spring (or fall) in your area, and has there been anything in particular that has lifted your spirit this week?

We have a white rose bush that is blooming most of the year. I love it. Unfortunately our puppy has mistreated some others and they are not doing well.
Lifting our hearts as usual!
Where is the protest photo taken? We, over here in the UK, don't easily recognise US urban skylines!
