Sunday, April 14, 2024: Ta da! List
Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, , Day 1321:
Celebrations:
Health:
I initially had a whole different topic I was going to do today as my main celebration, but after having spent well over two hours this morning on cleaning, and ending up feeling quite perky, I thought I should celebrate my health instead.
I can tell that my stamina is definitely so much better than it was six months ago, when I was winded after more than 30 minutes of dusting and sweeping. I knew that today I would spend a lot of time cleaning because I hadn’t done a thorough dust, sweep, and wet mop, for several weeks because of the rain. What I didn’t intend on doing was going 2 and a half hours straight.
But first my husband went out early to get groceries this morning (our regular delivery yesterday was missing a key bag of vegetables) so started early getting the main dusting and upstairs done. He suffers from dust allergies so I try to do all the main cleaning when he is out of the house…and usually this sets a natural limit to the time I spend cleaning at any one time.
However, when he got back, he immediately took the dog out for her long 90 minute walk, so without a break I worked hard to get the rest of the downstairs done (changing all the couch covers that were packed with dog hair, sweeping and wet mop the floors, etc.) I had just finished this when he returned and it was time to finish putting the groceries away. I then did one more small declutter project getting ready for the big bathroom remodel (only 2 ½ weeks away.)
That’s when I noticed I had been on my feet cleaning between 7 and 9:20. I was tired, but not exhausted, my arthritis wasn’t complaining any more than usual, and even my injured index finger hadn’t bothered me the way it had for the past month when I cleaned. Big Tada!
In addition, I worked a good bit yesterday on the novel, actually writing over 300 words (and cutting about 200—smile.) With the splint on and taking frequent breaks, the right hand was only a little achy, which again might simply be the new normal, but one I can live with.
After I finish this post, I have the rest of the day to get back to the novel, with only one phone call in the late afternoon, so that is certainly another reason to celebrate.
So, rather than spending any time wondering about the future, I am going to celebrate my sense of well-being today!
Hope you all are feeling equally perky! Feel free to share your tadas!
