Daily Diary, Day 734: The best laid plans…
It’s Labor Day here in the states, a holiday, and it looks like I am taking a holiday from writing, whether I want to or not. Saturday and Sunday, primarily because of the enervating effects of the heat, I got very little written on the novel. (703 words total for the weekend.) Today, I may not get anything written, given two phone calls this morning, two more scheduled after lunch. I love the people I talk to, and I have found that conversations with friends does distract me from the heat.
The high on Saturday was 100, yesterday, only 92 (today it is already 92, so I suspect it is going to get hotter than yesterday.) The main problem for me is the evenings, because it isn’t getting cool enough outside so that opening up and let the fans bring in cooler air isn’t happening. So, both back of house, which is gets the afternoon full sunlight, and then the bedroom (at the top of the house so hottest), are not real pleasant. But this too will pass, and it looks like in about a week, we will hit a cooling trend. So, I am jettisoning the 5000 word goal, and anything I get done will be celebrated.
However, I am quite proud that I have been doing a good job of getting my 90 mins of exercise done early each day, when the heat isn’t too oppressive. So, I am meeting that goal. This is probably also helping be sleep better, and is more important to my general health than words on a page.
On walk today, noticed this cactus flower. The rest of the plant looks almost dead, so this sudden bloom was a surprise. It could be this plant like the heat (and we had a freak rain shower Sunday night, so maybe the combination is just what it needed.) A reminder there is beauty everywhere, if you just stay in the present.
