Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1732:
Edgar Report: Still hanging upside down from the ceiling. Hasn’t moved an inch since he reappeared. Plus no other spider sighting as I clean each morning. I’ve taken to being particularly careful as I whisk my fake feather duster around. Goal is to get cobwebs, not active spiders.
Yesterday was my first full day of advil, compression sleeve, icing and trying not to spend much time typing at the computer. By the end of the day the swelling had gone down a bit, but had returned by morning. So far I have avoided wearing the sleeve at night when I was working on the other elbow, getting comfortable at night with various aches is hard enough. But if this trend continues, I think I will see if wearing compression sleeve at night as well accelerates the healing.
I did get all caught up on reading substack newsletters, did my two walks, although I did the second one before dinner because it was so warm, and because of the time it took me to put away the groceries before lunch. Mostly read the current Gibson I am reading, and fought off feeling sleepy (the advil?), and had a quick phone call.
Today pretty much the same. I’ve cleaned, started laundry, will post this and then take my first walk before a scheduled nine o’clock zoom call. Then ice, read, and depending how the elbow is doing, maybe write a few more paragraphs. Or not!
Here are some of the jacaranda that are purpling up more and more each day.

So sorry to hear about need to ice your elbow! Haven't read the last few posts. Love the Jacarandas and appreciate your thoughtfulness to the spider. I have carried a few out of my trailer! Also, have re-homed a mouse caught in a live trap recently :)
Jacaranda is a beautiful tree in full bloom!
