Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1655:
I did get in a 30-minute walk yesterday in the morning. Cold, cloudy but no drizzle at that time. But about 15 minutes after I got back, it did start to drizzle, but very lightly. In fact, all day the on-line weather channel kept pushing back when the heavier rain was going to hit us. It appears that most of the heavy rain was to the north of us. However, about 3:30 the predicted rain did come and lasted until around 8 pm, although it was more like a sustained heavy drizzle, and the total accumulation for the day was slightly under half an inch.
I also got some work done, fleshing out a sentence outline for the first three scenes. I also produced one of my monthly newsletters that went out this morning, and I had the pre-scheduled two phone calls after lunch. Both were with people who have been directly affected by what is going on in the federal government. It is so hard not to be in a constant state of fury over the reckless decisions that are being made without any apparent concern about the devastation that these decisions are having people and their families. But I can listen, and I can write my stories that I hope provide both insight to similar problems we have faced as a nation in the past, while at the same time provide some solace with a happy ending or two.
Meanwhile, we are watching season 2 of Severance every night, trying not to get confused, feeling vindicated when one of our guesses about what is going on proves true. Not exactly fun, light entertainment, but it certainly keeps our attention. Then we try to end the night with easier fare, Elsbeth last night, Death in Paradise the night before, and always Mad About You last thing. Those were the days when a sit-com had over 20 episodes a season!
I have a zoom call this morning, but afterwards I plan on walking and getting in a second walk this afternoon. Here is a sweet clump of pansies I saw on my walk yesterday.

The "reckless decisions"--my goodness. South of the border insanity, and up here, north, lots of anger. And fear, I have to say.
Wishing you strength in the madness!
Keep writing!!
Love it that you too are sometimes "confused" by Severance. I personally love the show and am curious where it is going. Love the photo and yes! keep writing.
