Words written and clouds and decorations to get in the holiday spirit.
Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1187:
Yesterday morning was pretty much spent with household chores. Did the major cleaning upstairs, lots of laundry, ordered groceries, which took longer than usual because finding and ordering all the ingredients for the cookies, fudge, and chocolate truffles my husband makes as presents for xmas. Also had plumber in to fix a drip in downstairs bathroom. Sadly, although everything will be replaced in 4 months, we still had to spend the money to get the valves replaced so we could actually turn the hot water faucet off to stop the drip. Oh, well. There went the royalties I made last month!
I had a couple of short phone calls, but did get in writing time in the afternoon, so reached a total of 601 words with a last push after dinner. I worked all day on one of those chapters where I kept trying to make it work as a flash back, and finally decided I needed to do in real time. Once I did that, it went smoothly. I should have learned by now that any time a flash back goes for more than 2 - 3 paragraphs, it probably needs to be given a scene of its own in real time.
Today, no major cleaning, no scheduled phone calls, and except for putting away the groceries, I should get in my usual exercise and lots of writing time. Haven't gone on morning walk yet, wanted to get through the next scene, besides it is still in the fifties out, cold enough so that the heat pump is pumping away to maintain the house at 67 degrees!
Here is one of the incredible clouds at sunset from the other night, and a xmas display for your pleasure.
