Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1697:
As expected, I didn’t get much writing done (200 words), and while I did get a second walk, it was right before dinner so I only did 20 minutes. But we did get our Covid boosters, and I got everything else on my to-do list for yesterday completed.
Thursday night we watched a little hour long show of interviews from the actors on Vera that came out at the end of last season’s Vera (which was the final season). we have just started sporadically rewatching the whole 14 seasons in order, so this was a fun reintroduction to the various characters. Not going to watch it every night so it may take us a year to get through all seasons. Then we watched the first episode of a new show on Britbox, called I, Jack Wright, which is very reminiscent of an Agatha Christie. There are 12 suspects! We watched the second episode last night, and so far so good.
Today I would normally give the upstairs a thorough cleaning, but I woke up with a very sore left arm (where I got my Covid booster yesterday), and pretty much every joint in my body is complaining. So, I limited my cleaning to the regular daily cleaning, then gratefully sat down to let everything stop aching. I have a 9 am zoom meeting, and depending on how I feel, I will try to do a very short walk before and after lunch. Otherwise the goal today is take some advil, drink lots of water, ice my bursitis in my right elbow, which started to swell again a couple of days ago. I suspect the bursitis might be reacting to how much typing I’ve been doing, so I will make today my no writing day of this week and let everything calm down.
I have had this kind of reaction to Covid vaccines before, doesn’t last long, and since close relatives are coming to visit their daughter in a couple of weeks, and we always spend time with them (me masked), I was glad to get the immunization. Seems that every single time they’ve come to visit in the past couple of years one or the other have come down with Covid or a flu while here, so I definitely felt better safe than sorry.
Cloudy today, with 40% chance of rain mid-day, here is one of my favorite hybrids I jus found. The only bloom so far on that bush, I suspect all the rose bushes will welcome some showers if they are gentle.

The variegated colour is amazed.
That is an amazing rose!
