Daily Diary, , Day 765: Yesterday was a difficult day for me. I was worried about a very dear friend, and then I got the news that she had died. Feeling great sadness, although she had been battling severe illness for the past few years, so also there is also the relief of knowing that she is now out of pain.
Needless to say, I didn’t get any writing done, instead I spent the afternoon getting caught up on reading the ever-expanding stack of interesting articles I am finding on substack. Then I chose the old Jackie Chan movie, Rush Hour, to watch in the evening, followed by the first episode of My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (by the same woman who is doing Reboot.) All nice light entertainment that even prompted a few laughs.
Didn’t have a great night’s sleep, but I was able to sleep in a bit, so overall not too short on total hours. But I did decide not to try and get in a walk this morning. Seems like about once a week I skip a walk, so maybe this is just a good schedule for me, although I would prefer the reason not that I am sad and tired. Today I have my usual Thursday noon zoom meeting, then a second scheduled phone meeting, so I am not setting very high expectations for writing today. Instead, just being very gentle with myself.
And to turn to a cheerier note, Halloween decorations have started appearing, and I have decided to do what I did with looking for colors, only now starting to look at types of Halloween decorations. Today, I am going to set the stage with photos I took from one house that seemed to have pretty much every kind of decoration you can image. They have skeletons, hints at witches, a scary spider, and a ghost. Be prepared to be amazed!! PS. After posting, it did occur to me how strange it was to put up pictures of skeletons and ghosts on a day I wrote about the death of a friend, but in some ways it was fitting, given that holiday has always had an element to it of making peace with our fear of death.
