Daily Diary, , Day 778: Whew, we are having a Santa Ana, which is winds coming from the east, off of the desert, hot, gusty, sweeping away the marine layer near the coast and definite fire danger. The heat spells we had earlier were odd monsoonal heat, but yesterday and today we are having what is much more normal for Fall in Southern California.
The peak yesterday locally was 86 degrees, around 2 to 4. Today, at 9:30 it is already 89 degrees, and I have no doubt will go up into the nineties. It was cool last night, we opened everything up, got the house down to 70 degrees this morning, and I've just combined my cleaning with going around closing windows and blinds to see if we can slow the inevitable climb upwards.
I also got in my full walk early today, but my husband is out walking the dog now, and probably sweltering. A friend was supposed to come to visit today, but we postponed until Friday when it is supposed to only be in the 70s and cloudy.
I did get 1068 words written and 80 mins of exercise done yesterday, as well as a lovely long visit with a friend, early enough that there was enough shade outside to make the heat tolerable.
Today, I have one phone call scheduled, and besides keeping cool, I should be able to get my 1000 words written. As promised, here is a rose I saw (in my favorite hybrid color) that hadn't yet succumbed to the heat. I have some buds on my own yellow rose bush, but this morning they already looked burnt around the edges so I will be surprised if they make it through today.
