Daily Diary, November 23, 2022 Day 813: I'm waiting for a phone call, so hesitating to get into writing again. I did end up with 1763 words yesterday, and I've gotten 453 written today. Probably more significantly, this morning I finished the last scene in the last chapter I had a semi detailed outline for.
To give you an idea how, even with greater detail, I never quite know how long each chapter or scene is going to be, my original plan was to have 3 chapters cover the events in a single day. Instead, I ended up writing six chapters covering that day, all of them pretty long.
I also spent a couple of hours this afternoon working up more detail on what is supposed to happen during the next day (with will be at least 2 more chapters) and started on the detail for the morning of the next day. I also decided I really needed to write a new chapter, much earlier in the book, around chapter 10 before I can go on.
The information I need the reader to have, really can't be introduced for the first time in chapter 28! This will require some moving around, and redoing chapter numbers. I suspected this was going to happen, but put off making the decision until I got to this spot. But now I know it's got to be done.
One of the upsides of the fact the loss of writing time because of the theft of our catalytic converter theft and the subsequent need to buy a used car, is that I feel good about taking the time to go back and do this work now. If I had been staying strictly on task with a certain word count per day as part of NaNoWriMo, I would feel more conflicted over making this decision.
In short, the beauty of being an independent author, and my own boss, is that I can pivot with out quilt. The only "deadlines," I miss are my own!
Last night ,while browsing and looking for what to watch on TV, we discovered the Jim Jarmusch movie, Ghost Dog, on Criterion. We had been wanting to rewatch it, but it hadn't been available. If you like Jim Jarmusch, which we do, I highly recommend this.
I imagine those of you in the US are gearing up for Thanksgiving. Our Thanksgivings (as vegetarians and not living near relatives) are usually very quiet. However, a tradition we have let lapse is driving to the beach on this day. So my plan for tomorrow is to drive the new ca to the beach. Depending on crowds and parking, we might even get out and walk along the shore.
I'm finding it difficult to find anything new to photograph on my walks, as the leaves have fallen, there are few blossoms, and the halloween decorations are down and the christmas ones aren't up yet. So here is one that simply celebrates Fall! Hope you all have a lovely day, and stay healthy.
To "pivot without quilt". I know you meant without guilt, but the image in my mind's eye is of a young lady standing in a field of wildflowers flinging a quilt holding it by one corner so it is all "fluffed out" like a flat sail. If I could draw, I would pencil it and send it, but I can't so I leave it to your imagination. It is a joyful pivot, at any rate. Thanks for the (accidental) image!
