Daily Diary, Day 807: Wow, another day that did not turn out as expected. The morning was pretty routine, up a little early (dog woke us at 5), good walk and cleaning, enjoying listening to the Laurie King as I did both. But then as I sat down to get to work, a call from my daughter, who was panicking a bit over how much sinus and tooth pain she was still in from the virus.
Whatever this virus is that is going around is really taking people down. I certainly didn't mind putting the mom hat on, although it is hard when your daughter is two states away, and you can't bundle them into their old room and make it all better.
But, by the time the call was over, I had my noon zoom meeting, and a second meeting I had forgotten I had scheduled after that. And when I was done with those meetings, I didn't feel like writing right away.
So I started to think about my cover for this book, and the possibility of rebranding the covers in this series, because I've never been as satisfied with them as I am with my mystery covers.
Consequently, I reached out to my cover designer, who has really moved beyond cover designing, and is terribly busy, because I suspected that she wasn't going to be able to drop everything and look into rebranding what will eventually be at least 5 covers.
She got right back to me, and as I suspected, was glad I wasn't going to expect her to do the rebranding. She will still do the mysteries because we have those down to a science in terms of planning, which means doesn't take as much time. However, this this means it's time for me to start to look for a new cover designer for this series.
The first step is to decide what I want, As a result I spent the rest of the afternoon looking at science fiction covers and found that what I like, and what seems to be the current style, are not really in sync.
Anyway, I did find a few examples that I liked to help me begin to imagine what I want, and the next step will be to look into finding someone. So, I did good work this afternoon, that needed to be done, but not a single word written.
Now its time to make dinner, but first here is a picture of my shadow from the morning walk (the sun is low in the sky, making these great shadows.)
Your shadow - Mama Long Legs! It is hard when our grown kids get sick, that nurturing instinct takes over and moving the world and time is just details. Hope your daughter is on the mend soon.
