November 1, 2022: NaNoWriMo Day 1
Daily Diary, Day 791: First day of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and I got 1808 words written. Yahoo! A very good start, given that I also got my hour walk in, my regular cleaning, a load of wash, and two long phone calls.
The work I did preparing this weekend really helped, as did my refusal to stop writing to fill in details like a new character's name, etc. Tomorrow will be the test to see if I can stop myself from reading what I wrote and spending time editing, filling in those blanks.
NaNoWriMo advises that you need to average 1667 words a day if you want to achieve the 50,000 words written in a month. I am hoping I won't have to go that high in total word count to reach the end of the book, but I still want to try to stick to that average. And that means getting as far ahead as I can on days like today (or tomorrow when all I have scheduled is a dental appointment ), since I know there will days when it will be hard to get much written. I was also good about postponing this post until after dinner, so as not to use up writing time.
I am also excited that a number of author friends have decided to participate this year, so it will be fun to cheer them on.
I'm leaving you with a photo my husband took yesterday in the morning looking to the north of us. For some reason the fog that rolled in from the ocean to the west (which is not unusual), just clung to the bottom of Rose Canyon that we can see from our house. That, plus the pink of sunrise hitting the trees on the other side of the canyon, made for a stunning picture.
