Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1182:
Sunday was a very productive day, nice and balanced. I did my usual main downstairs cleaning, which took over two hours because I was stripping and cleaning sheets in the guest bed room in addition to other tasks. I didn’t walk in the morning, since I had obviously gotten a lot of exercise already, but this gave me time to finish the post I for the morning about my slight change in direction for my weekly writing intentions post.
Then I got some writing done, had a short, unscheduled phone call, and a full 20 minutes of doing my chair Pilates before lunch. I also had a bit of a light-bulb moment about a possible plot for another shorter work in the Victorian mystery series. If this idea begins to solidify, I will celebrate this in next Sunday’s Ta da! post.
In the afternoon, I actually made my goal of over 500 words for the day and had a very rewarding phone call before taking a 20 minute walk, where I got to witness a gorgeous sunset! I decided not to try to take a photo. (I mean how many sunset photos can I take? And there is some benefit to just enjoying the sight for myself). However, I did see the cute little lawn ornament below and did snap a photo of that.
Today should go pretty much the same as yesterday, except I will did a morning walk in addition to regular cleaning and Rio the border collie came over to play. I have another scheduled phone call in the late afternoon, with someone I usual talk to every week or so, but it’s been a month, so I am looking forward to catching up.
As for my writing, I’ve already written over 100 words on a brand new scene this morning, and except for some laundry, there isn’t anything in the way of me getting in another two hours of work!
