Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, , Day 1287:
It’s been nearly in three weeks since I hurt my knuckle, and a little less than that since I developed a stye, and while I am definitely ready to have this bout of minor health issues end, I’m settling in to doing what I can, day today, and be patient.
First of all, a good morning to you have gratitude for a number of reasons. Yesterday I learned that my best friend, who was battling a very distressing long Covid symptom, seems to have turned a corner and is feeling much better. I was very relieved to hear this. In addition, I am feeling rested this morning because I had a full eight hours of sleep last night. After several weeks, my six in the morning pranayama class resumed this morning as well, and a very dear friend joined the group for the first time. As a result, I had the pleasure breathing in and out with a nice small group that consisted of the yoga leader, one of the regulars, my friend, and my daughter! A wonderful way to start the morning.
And, I actually got over 1000 words written yesterday. Well, 1000 words dictated yesterday. I’m not sure I am yet comfortable seeing this as writing since I haven’t even glanced at what was written down, so I don’t know how usable any if it was. However, it was certainly good to get back into the novel and start moving forward.
Today I have a bone density scan scheduled, so between Rio coming to play and doing the hot compresses of my eye and icing of my hand, I probably won’t have time to write. I also have at least one phone call to schedule today, but I see no reason why I can’t carve out a little time in the afternoon for writing. All in all, a good start to the week.
Here are the first blooms showing up on rosebush in the neighborhood that is usually quite prolific, so I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the blooms come out.
