Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1741:
Daddy long legs report: Edgar and friends are still missing from the downstairs bathroom. However, yesterday morning, while dusting downstairs, I moved a standing lamp and a Daddy Long Legs scurried away. It was probably too far away for Edgar to have reached, and since that time, this particular DLL hasn’t come back. Meanwhile while straightening the master suite bathroom, I saw a different Daddy Long Legs running up the wall behind the toilet. It was quite small, and it was still there this morning, but missing when I came into that room to do daily dust. Then, a few seconds later, while dusting my dresser I spied a very large Daddy Long Legs on the wall above the dresser by the lamp. If this one sticks around I may have to name him…maybe “Big Daddy!”

Definitely seems to be Daddy Long Legs season, so I have hopes that Edgar and his smaller friends may reappear in the downstairs bathroom.
After finishing and posting yesterday’s Small Moments of Delight newsletter, and spending two hours, off and on, doing my deep cleaning downstairs, I decided not to try to do a long walk before lunch on Sunday. I did walk for 20 minutes, after an hour phone call. But I didn’t get in a second walk because I had a phone call in the afternoon. Otherwise, I just got caught up with newsletters and newspapers and read.
This was the second day without advil, and while a number of of my other joints complained, both of my elbows are actually back to normal size. Will try this week to use the compression sleeve on both arms when doing cleaning or any extended typing to see if I can make progress on novella without setting off the bursitis again.
Continuing to watch The Closer, at night, mixing in other shows. Night before last we watched the newest episode of Death Valley, and last night we watched the next episode in the new Sherlock and Daughter series.
Today, as usual for Mondays, I had yoga at 6 am on zoom, I’ve cleaned, and after posting this I will get in a walk before Rio the border collie comes. Another day of June gloom, streets wet from that mizzle (misty drizzle) that rolls in each morning. Today the forecast is promising “peeks of sunshine late.” Which means maybe a couple of minutes the clouds will break apart enough for some sun to get through (smile.) However, the next week it is shifting from cloudy to partly cloudy, and even some sunny days forecast for next week, so that is something to look forward to.
Meanwhile, no more bushes with abundant blooms, but here and there the single blossom or two now really stand out.

How very fun to continue to get updates on Edgar and friends (assuming they have an amicable relationship!) Glad your elbows are back to normal size.
You and I could put on quite an organ recital, giggle!!!
